Dr. Sharmishtha Mondal

Clinical-Scientist, Formulation Expert, Co-Founder, Be.ing painfree

Dr. Sharmishtha is a clinical–scientist and healthcare entrepreneur working at the intersection of science, clinical practice and women’s lived health realities. Trained within the Clinical–Scientist model, her work bridges patient-centred care with rigorous research, with a singular focus on translating clinical insight into meaningful, scalable healthcare solutions.

Where it All Began

Her journey into entrepreneurship did not begin in a boardroom, but in clinics. Over years of working closely with thousands of patients across mental health, menstrual health, and reproductive wellbeing, Sharmishtha observed a recurring and deeply normalised pattern: women navigating cyclical pain with limited, often inadequate options. The narratives were strikingly similar, discomfort was dismissed as routine, productivity was compromised and relief was positioned as optional rather than essential.

Not Merely a Medical Gap, but a Lived One

This sustained clinical exposure revealed how menstrual pain was routinely under-addressed, managed reactively, or silently endured. The insight became the foundation for Be.ing painfree, a menstrual wellness company built on clinical observation, scientific rigour, and a clear refusal to accept endurance as the default experience for women.

Academic Excellence & Scientific Foundation

Sharmishtha’s academic journey reflects a rare convergence of distinction, depth, and interdisciplinary inquiry. She completed her undergraduate and postgraduate education at Christ University, Bangalore, graduating with record-holder honours. Trained within the Clinical–Scientist framework, she developed an early and sustained integration of research with clinical practice.

Her academic training was further advanced through specialised programmes and certifications from Johns Hopkins University, Yale University, and Wesleyan University, spanning clinical psychology, neuroscience, medicinal chemistry and research methodologies. Her research contributions have been recognised through multiple Best Scientific Paper awards, and she maintains international professional affiliations, including with the World Health Organization’s Global Clinical Practice Network (GCPN).

Across research, clinical work, and innovation, her approach has remained grounded in a core principle: healthcare solutions must be scientifically robust, clinically safe, and aligned with real human experience.

From Clinical Insight to Category Innovation

Be.ing painfree emerged from years of direct clinical engagement and the recognition of a persistent gap in women’s healthcare. Through her work with over 4,000 patients across mental health, menstrual health, and reproductive care, Sharmishtha witnessed firsthand how menstrual pain was normalised, under-treated, and often addressed through temporary or incomplete solutions.

Clinical Inquiry Evolved to Category Innovation

Combining expertise in clinical psychology, neuroscience, and formulation science with international pharmaceutical leadership experience in South Africa, she founded Be.ing painfree as a science-led menstrual wellness company designed to integrate menstrual hygiene with evidence-based pain management. The brand was built to move period care beyond passive protection and toward active comfort, relief, and functional wellbeing.

The company has been recognised among the Top 9 startups in India by WTFund, founded by Nikhil Kamath, and has received support and recognition from NIDHI Prayas, Elevate Karnataka, IIM Bangalore, and SPJIMR.

Beyond Research and Innovation

Beyond the demands of clinical work, research, and building a category-defining healthcare company, Sharmishtha remains deeply connected to creative and movement-based practices.

Cultivated long before her scientific career, these practices continue to serve as anchors for balance, reflection, and creative clarity. They reflect a worldview in which science and creativity are complementary forces together shaping insight, intuition, and resilience.

A Vision Rooted in Science and Humanity

Dr. Sharmishtha represents a new generation of healthcare innovators, those who combine scientific rigour with clinical sensitivity and lived empathy.
